Saturday we decided to go see the Eagles at Farmington Bay. A friend from work had gone a couple weeks ago and returned with some awesome picture. On his blog he has a picture of this tree with over 25 eagles in it. We started into the preserve with our eyes wide open. We spotted a tree and everyone had to ask if that was “the tree” from the picture. I said it’s a tree but probably not “the tree”. Turns out there are only about ½ dozen trees in this wildlife marsh area and it was “the tree”. We were too late to see the eagles. They had started to return home to Canada. My friend tells me that they come every year. He and his brother, on their trip, saw several hundred while they were there. We will need to go earlier next year.
We did see some cool stuff though. The ice was thawing and was buckling up along the shore. Got a couple pictures of that. If you look really hard you can see a couple eagles in one of these pictures. We saw a couple pelicans, a couple dozen swan and a plethora of Mud Ducks. The best “moment” I did not get on film. There were several spot that were designated as bird resting areas. It was if the birds could read because hundreds of the Mud Ducks were all huddled together by the signs. I got out of the car to take a picture. I guess the click of turning on my camera spooked them and the whole group scooted away. They triggered the next resting spot that followed in suit as well as the next 2. That was really cool to see. Tanner wanted me to do it again, but the ducks would not cooperate.
