The last few weeks, as Soccer has become a major part of life in the DeMann household, I have had the opportunity to associate with a lot of players, coaches, parents, opponents and referees. Observing them has made me take closer look at myself and my family. You see most of our live, whether it be sports, work, school, scouts, or whatever, is merely a subset of what we are.
During BYU's Down years a few years back I had several neighbors who would come and talk to me because they said I was positive and would find something good about the game so they could move on and not wallow in the horror of the loss that just happened. I took this as a compliment. I do think of myself as a glass is half full kind of person. That having been said I really like Gary Larsen (The Farside) and his 4 personality types. Since he has copyrights I can not post his picture. Let me paint you a verbal image, so you can enjoy it with me.
The cartoon is divided into 4 quadrants. Each quadrant has an individual looking at a partially filled glass of water and then has their response (hence the 4 personality types).
Quadrant 1- "Glass is half full"
Quadrant 2- "Glass is half empty"
Quadrant 3- "Glass is half empty.. full...uh I don't know"
Quadrant 4- "HEY I ordered a Hamburger".
I see a lot of Hamburger personality types. No matter what happens they want something different. I will admit they still annoy me at times, but mostly I feel sad for them because they are missing out on good things while they want some thing else. (See First Presidency Message April 2008).
That in mind, While doing some coaching motivational searching, I found a quote last week that I thought was SO important to remember.
"Attitudes really are contagious. So ask yourself, Is mine worth Catching?"
HAVE A GREAT DAY!
